Released in May, "Mended" is Anthony’s English follow-up to his 1999 self-titled debut in that language. For this album, Anthony uses the same formula for success by reuniting with co-writer / producer Cory Rooney, executive producer for his English debut album and co-writer for the international hit "I Need To Know." Showcasing his extraordinary musical range, from heart-pulling ballads to irresistible grooves, "Mended" boasts 13 tracks. The first cut off the disc, "I Need You," quickly became a Top-Five adult contemporary hit, which soon was followed by the single "I’ve Got You." As an added bonus, this single also is featured on the disc in Spanish as "Te Tengo Aquí." Anthony co-wrote six of "Mended’s" tracks, which also includes the composing talents of Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas. Marc Anthony, whose real name is Marco Antonio Muñiz, named by his father after the famous Mexican singer, was born in New York to Puerto Rican parents. Growing up listening to rock and rhythm & blues, Anthony began singing in English at New York dance clubs during the heydays of house music. He also sang background on records with the Latin Rascals band, whose producer was Louie Vega. After Vega received a recording contract with Atlantic Record in 1991, he asked Anthony to be his singer. Of their records, "Rebel," a nightclub hit, was the most noteworthy. Having sung in English up to this point in his career, Anthony had no interest in singing in Spanish despite suggestions by his manager. It wasn’t until he heard Juan Gabriel’s "Hasta Que Te Conocí" that Marc became smitten and asked his manager if he could record it in a salsa version. After performing the single at a Latin music convention, Anthony’s life was forever changed, with bookings throughout Latin America and even as far away as Tokyo. After releasing a series of successful salsa albums, "Otra Nota" (1993), "Todo A Su Tiempo" (1996), "Contra La Corriente" (1997), and "Desde Un Principio" (1999), Marc Anthony had become an international superstar. Although he was hailed as the King of Salsa, he was relatively unknown in the United States until 1999 when he released his self-titled English-language debut album. Even with the full support of his label (Sony), Anthony admits he was hesitant about the new venture. Yet all those doubts soon were forgotten when the album sold three million copies and was certified triple platinum. Now, Anthony hopes to achieve the same success with "Mended," his second English effort. The Marc Anthony "Mended" concert is an Angelo Medina production. Marc Anthony, salsa / pop superstar, is on the road promoting "Mended," his latest album. After kicking off his tour in early July at Boston’s Tweeter Center, Anthony finally arrives in Puerto Rico after more than 30 performances throughout the United States and Canada. The concert, which goes by the same name as the album, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m., at Carolina’s new Roberto Clemente Walker Stadium.
