To The Editor:

Hello,

I am Juan Figueroa,Jr. I am a proud native of Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

My family has served proudly in the U.S. Armed Forces. My dad, Juan Figueroa Melendez, also a native of Fajardo, P.R., retired about two years ago from the Virgin Islands Army National Guard. Three of my great uncles served in the Korean War. A cousin of mine served in Vietnam as well. As I came across your web site, I was deeply moved to learn about the history of the 65th Infantry Regiment of my beloved island.

Although I grew up in St.Croix, US. Virgin Islands, I have always been proud of my Puerto Rican heritage. About 5 years ago as I attended a winter league baseball camp hosted by the Houston Astros minor-league class A organization in Kissimmee, Florida, I stayed with one of those great-uncles of mine and he vividly reflected on the missions and major battles were he fought hand-to-hand combat in Korea.

My great-uncles name is Diego Melendez Vegerano. I was so intrigued by his memories that it has left a lasting impression on me.

In conclusion, I am proud to learn that your web site honors our Puerto Rican Veterans. My great-uncle served in the 65th Infantry regiment in Korea.

Your web site is inspiring and shows the courage, devotion, dignity, honor, and national pride of the Puerto Rican represented by our veteran heroes.

Thank you and God bless.

Juan Figueroa,Jr.
