PR Newswire (U.S.) Experience Puerto Rico's Exciting Lelolai Festival Program - Program Introduces Visitors To Typical Puerto Rican Music And Dance 16 August 2004 NEW YORK, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- WHAT: As a popular series of musical productions for visitors to experience Puerto Rican culture, the LeLoLai Festival Program grants complimentary access to spectacular concerts and shows that feature Puerto Rico's unique culture. HISTORY: The Puerto Rico Tourism Company developed the LeLoLai Festival more than 25 years ago to introduce and expose visitors to a variety of Puerto Rican music and dance, both important elements of the vibrant Puerto Rican culture. To this day, the LeLoLai festival consists of four weekly shows that are offered year round for visitors to enjoy. SCHEDULE: Popular and folkloric music and dance shows take place four nights a week.
ORIGINS: The word LeLoLai is an onomatopoeic phrase that mimics the sounds of the strings of the guitar and the "cuatro," a smaller, native variation of the guitar. It is often sung during the chorus of typical folk songs, dating back to the days when Puerto Rico was under Spanish rule.
