Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., is encouraging state students to apply for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, or CHCI, internship, fellowship and scholarship programs.

CHCI is a nonprofit Hispanic education organization based in Washington, D.C.

The organization's board of directors is comprised of Hispanic members of Congress, nonprofit leaders, and corporate executives.

"The knowledge and experience gained from working in the political arena is priceless," Domenici said in a news release. "The CHCI's multiple programs extend opportunities for Hispanic youth to further their education in a variety of stimulating and challenging environments."

The Congressional Summer Internship selects 30 Hispanic undergraduates for a eight-week internships in the nation's capital.

While in Washington, D.C. interns work in Congressional offices. The 2004-05 Public Policy Fellowship program offers up to 20 of the top Hispanics nationwide the opportunity to gain experience at the national level in the public policy area of their choice.

The nine-month fellowship gives participants the opportunity to work in such areas as international affairs, economic development, education policy, housing or corporate affairs.

CHCI awards scholarships to Hispanics students from all states and Puerto Rico who participate in public and community service activities in their communities.

Recipients receive a one-time scholarship of $2,500 to attend a four-year or graduate-level academic institution or $1,000 to attend a two-year community college.

Applications can be accessed online at www.chciyouth.org or by contacting the institute at (800) 392-3532. Deadlines are Jan. 31 for the internship; March 1 for the fellowship; and April 15 for the scholarship.
