SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- American Airlines on Tuesday announced eight more flights from San Juan starting July 2, increasing its total to 54 flights from Puerto Rico.

The airline is adding one flight each to Dallas/Fort Worth; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Hartford, Connecticut; Miami; Newark, New Jersey; New York's JFK airport; Orlando, Florida and St. Louis, American spokeswoman Minnette Velez said.

The Fort Worth-based airline's increase in flights from San Juan was in response to the normal jump in traffic to and from the U.S. Caribbean territory during the summer months, said Phil Olivieri, American's regional director in San Juan.
