CompUSA Opens First International Store - Computer Retailer Expands Into Puerto Rico

DALLAS, April 24 /PRNewswire/ - CompUSA Inc.(R), Where America Buys Technology(TM), today announced that it is entering Puerto Rico. Local operations will begin May 1, 2003 and the first CompUSA store will open in fall 2003.

CompUSA has started to hire local commercial sales representatives and will be focusing its efforts to communicate CompUSA's value proposition of product, selection, service and solutions.

"Using knowledgeable business specialists, we will be targeting commercial customers from small to large businesses, the public sector, and education markets," stated Bob Sayewitz, vice president of commercial sales for CompUSA. CompUSA plans to open it first technology superstore in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Located in the Plaza Caparra Shopping Center, the approximately 22,000 square-foot store will be staffed with an estimated 100 sales associates. The shopping center is home to other major retailers including Marshall's Megastore and Amigo Food Store.

CompUSA is planning to open two more stores in Puerto Rico over the next two years.

"We are planning to break ground on a store in Carolina, Puerto Rico this summer that will open in the first quarter of 2004, containing approximately 28,000 square feet including a commercial sales space," added Jerry Luther, vice president, real estate for CompUSA. "Our flagship store, approximately 35,000 square feet, is planned to open in 2004."
