The Puerto Rico Landmark Visitors Guide (Hunter Publishing, $11.99) offers a comprehensive overview of the Caribbean island. Maitland author Don Philpott touches on Puerto Rico's history, geography, wildlife, cuisine, culture and more. The "Food and Drink" section is noteworthy, with tips on what dishes to expect for every meal of the day and advice for the best local libations with which to wash it all down.

The guide offers six driving itineraries, ranging from 120 to 250 miles, which begin in San Juan and take in country hamlets, offshore islets, historic landmarks and the island's best beaches. Each itinerary includes driving directions and a list of must-see attractions.

The book also contains information useful for trip planning. "Fact Files" lists accommodations, restaurants, museums, car rental companies, tour operators, and a calendar of events and holidays. Look for the guide in bookstores, or check out www.hunterpublishing.com on the Web.
