Vieques will have an inventory of 267 hotel rooms once construction is completed on 145 rooms, representing investments totaling US$18 million, and the creation of 133 jobs, said Milton Segarra, Exec. Dir. Of the Puerto Rico Tourism Co. when he inaugurated a Government tourism promotion office on the island municipality, reports El Vocero (May 1, 2002). He explained the projects include expansions Of The Crow's Nest and Inn on the Blue Horizon, and new properties such as Hacienda Tropico and the Samba Rico Ridge guest house. The island off the east coast of Puerto Rico has been in the news the past year, due to protests over U.S. Navy bombardments, as part of military maneuvers held there periodically.
