Carnival Cruise Lines’ Jubilee will launch an exclusive six-port, seven-day Southern Caribbean cruise program departing from San Juan in fall 2003 and featuring a different tropical island each day.

The 1,486-passenger Jubilee will depart from the Port of San Juan every Saturday beginning Sept. 27 and visit the islands of St. Thomas, Antigua, St. Lucia, Dominica, St. Kitts, and Tortola.

Traditionally, ships make three or four calls during a weeklong sailing.

The Jubilee, currently sailing from Tampa, and repositioning to Galveston, Texas this summer–will also operate a one-time seven-day Caribbean sailing departing from Galveston on Sept. 20 and arriving in San Juan on Sept. 27. This special voyage–with ports of calls in Key West, St. Thomas, and St. Martin–will position the vessel for its new seven-day Southern Caribbean program.

Meanwhile, Carnival is also offering a one-of-a-kind eight-day round trip Caribbean cruise from New York in 2003 aboard the new 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend. The new program, which will operate May 13, 2003 to Oct. 12, 2003, is the only Caribbean cruise schedule round-trip from New York and features three different tropical destinations–San Juan, St. Thomas/St. John and Tortola Virgin Gorda.

The unusual eight-day rotation creates a wide range of days of the week on which voyages will depart and return providing maximum choice and flexibility for guests and will frequently place the Carnival Legend in Caribbean ports on less congested days, enhancing the shore side experience.

"The Carnival Legend is our newest ship that will be deployed in San Juan next summer," said Giora Israel, vice president of strategic planning for Carnival Corp. "Very rarely is there connection from New York to San Juan."

Israel pointed out that Carnival’s two deployments is due to the renewed relationship the cruise line has with the local government.

"We feel comfortable with what’s happening in Puerto Rico," Israel said. "We’ve had struggles with the local government in the past but our renewed relationship has helped us in our decision."

In related cruise news, Celebrity Cruises’ Constellation (the fourth in the cruise line’s Millennium-class fleet) will embark on a 14-night transatlantic voyage from Barcelona, on Oct. 25, and ending in Ft. Lauderdale, where the ship will sail two two-night cruises on Nov. 10 and 12.

Then, Constellation will reposition to San Juan and offer round-trip, seven-night Southern Caribbean sailings from Nov. 26 through April 5, 2003.

Constellation offers a number of features and amenities designed to appeal to cruise travelers, such as a 25,000-square-foot AquaSpa, a conservatory at sea, a 15,000-square-foot designer boutique area, Internet service in all staterooms and suites, an 18-workstation Internet cafe, and a music library.
