Furniture and home accessory retailer The Bombay Co. will open its doors in Plaza Las Americas in November, said Rodolfo Criscuolo, the company’s local franchisee.

Criscuolo told CARIBBEAN BUSINESS that in two years he expects sales to exceed $2.5 million.

The 2,750-square-foot store–to be opened as part of the company expansion outside the mainland U.S.–is expected to be among the chain’s five best selling stores, according to a company spokesman.

"Certainly, its location in Plaza Las Americas is an advantage considering the high traffic this mall has. Plaza is ideal for this type of store," said Criscuolo, whose son will be the store’s manager.

The company’s sales report for the second quarter (2Q) of 2001 shows $97 million in sales, up 8% from 1Q 2001, but a $2.7 million drop in comparison with last year’s 2Q. It expects to earn two to four cents per share in 3Q 2001 and between 39 and 42 cents per share during 4Q.

Besides opening in Puerto Rico, The Bombay Co. plans to open stores in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and the Dominican Republic.
